The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs hosted Temple Lady Cats in their final district game of the season on Tuesday night. Both of these squads would come into the game with identical 8-7 district records and both looking to extend their season with a victory in this game. The gym was packed while nerves and emotions were running high as this was also senior night. Seniors honored for the Lady Dawgs were: Madisen Honea, Livonna Wallace, Ja’Aliyah Segrest, Kaysha McCloud, Tiana Barker, Deja Chapman, Leah Powell, Keana Garrett, and Jazaree Jones. These seniors were honored with their families during the halftime if the JV game. Madisen Honea and Kaysha McCloud were also honored for surpassing the 1,000 point mark in points scored as varsity players.
The game began with both teams playing hard and matching each other on baskets. Cove would lead after 1st quarter, 12-11. The second quarter would favor Temple slightly as several Lady Dawgs found foul trouble. The game would be knotted at the half, 24-24. Cove would come out in the 3rd with a sense of urgency and have offensive contributions from five team members. Cove would lead after the 3rd, 37-33. In the final quarter both teams would trade blows until the final horn would go off. The Lady Dawgs would hold the Lady TemCats to only 3 baskets in this quarter but Temple would capitalize at the free throw line as they shot 14/15. Temple would get the win, 53-52. Statistics for this game: Powell would score 16 points, 8 rebounds, & 2 steals; McCloud scored 13 points, 5 rebounds, & 4 steals; Azaiah Knotts scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, & 3 steals; Honea scored 7 points & 3 rebounds; Chapman & Anderson both chipped in 2 points respectively. The Lady Dawgs finish 5th in the district with 8-8 record and 23-11 overall.
